
Natalee Garrett grew up in a small village in County Down, Northern Ireland. Planning to study English Literature at university, she accidentally fell in love with a History module on eighteenth-century France, and ended up graduating with a Joint BA in English and History from Queen’s University Belfast in 2015. She completed an MA in History at Queen’s before moving to Edinburgh in 2017. She received her PhD in History from the University of St Andrews in 2021 and she has lectured at the Open University since 2021.
A specialist in eighteenth-century Europe, she is particularly interested in popular culture, social class, national identity, and exploring the untold stories of remarkable historical women. She has published several academic works on the British monarchy in the eighteenth century, including a monograph on the life of Queen Charlotte, consort of George III. She has spoken about her research on podcasts and TV shows, including Channel 4’s The Royals: A History of Scandals in 2024.
